About Jessica

Jessica Ammirati is an independent director and producer in NYC. In the theatrical world she has been a stage manager, a designer, an all around techie, a writer, producer, and — the position most dear to her heart — a director. In her other life (The NYC Artist’s Life of Day Jobs) she has been an office administrator, receptionist, executive assistant, assistant bookkeeper, business affairs coordinator, waitress, bartender, massage therapist, personal trainer, birth doula, and childbirth educator. Blending the two lives has been…interesting (to say the least).

In 2008 she founded Going to Tahiti Productions with the mission of creating more opportunities for women in the entertainment industry. Jessica is passionate about telling original, complex, character-driven stories. She has directed theater, mostly original works, at venues all over the city including HERE Arts Center, Expanded Arts, Pulse Ensemble Theater, The American Theatre of Actors and The 78th Street Theater Lab. Through GTTP she has directed and produced (again all original works) at The Sage Theater, Roy Arias Studios, The Flamboyan Theater at The CSV Cultural and Educational Center, and The Secret Theatre in Long Island City. In 2012, her production of In The Ebb, by Camilla Ammirati, was an official selection of the New York International Fringe Festival.

Bio-1

In addition to her theater work, Jessica has directed and produced the music video for Camilla Ammirati's Ballad of Chicken
McGann and the short film Skin Flesh Bone, which later became a full length play produced by GTTP in the summer of 2011. In the winter of 2014 Jessica directed the web series The Jane Games, an amusing take on reality shows that puts six Jane Austen heroines on a modern-day dating show where they must compete to find their mates. After The Jane Games, Jessica directed and produced a version of the novel Within Arm’s Reach, which she also adapted for the stage and for which she won a Puffin Foundation Grant. Following on the heels of Within Arm’s Reach she made the foray into long-form film and television production with the one hour dramatic television pilot Farm Story, written by Terri Viani. A forty-something coming of age tale, Farm Story was completed in March of 2015 and Jessica and Terri are currently shopping it around to networks. Current projects for Jess include Hot Flash! - A Superhero for the Menopausal Age! and several short films.

Bio-2

Outside of her directing work, Jessica is from a large, tight-knit Italian family (many of which can be seen in her video, The
Ballad of Chicken McGann
). She is a wife, an aunt, a sister, a daughter, a cousin, a niece, and a friend. She has completed two marathons (Chicago in 2006 and NYC in 2013) and a half marathon (Brooklyn, 2014) and would totally do a triathalon, (if only the swimming portion could be replaced by horseback
riding). For a time she was learning to fly single-engine Cessna planes and is looking forward to the time in her life when she’ll be able to get back in the air. In the meantime, she’ll get the adrenaline rush from her directing, because nothing gets your heart racing quite so much as managing a cast and crew and shooting on location.
